Why Do Omanis Buy Cars and Spare Parts from Neighboring Countries?

A recent study conducted by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion of Oman reveals that a number of Omani consumers turn to neighboring countries to purchase cars and spare parts — even though prices for some brands and spare parts are actually lower in Oman.

The study highlights that the unavailability of certain essential spare parts in the local market is the primary reason for this behavior. It recommends stronger market oversight and mandatory availability of spare parts by authorized dealerships.

The report also points to promising industrial opportunities for local production and supply of auto parts and emphasizes the importance of investing in this sector to reduce import dependency and meet consumer demand.

The study concludes by recommending greater market transparency, improved after-sales service, and enhanced supply chain systems to rebuild consumer trust in the local market.
