22 July 2025
The Ministry of Labour in Oman has announced that, effective 1 September 2025, obtaining a Professional Practice License will become mandatory for several key professions in the logistics sector.

Objective of the New Requirement
This initiative is part of the Ministry’s strategy to regulate the labour market, enhance workforce efficiency, and ensure adherence to approved professional standards in Oman’s logistics sector.

Targeted Professions
The directive applies to all individuals, both Omani and expatriate, who are currently working in or intend to work in the following professions:

  • Refrigerated Truck Driver (Tractor-Trailer)
  • Water Tanker Driver (Tractor-Trailer)
  • Tractor Head Driver (Trailer)
  • Waste Transport Truck Driver
  • Food Delivery Representative
  • Food Delivery Supervisor

Work Permit Conditional on License
Starting from September 1, work permits (issuance or renewal) for these roles will be contingent upon obtaining a Professional Practice License from the Sectoral Skills Unit – Logistics Sector. No permit will be processed without it.

Application Process
Applications must be submitted online via the official platform:
https://issu.ola.om/sign-up

Enforcement and Compliance
The Ministry has clarified that non-compliance will result in legal and administrative action. These rules apply to all companies operating in Oman and to all practitioners in the listed professions.

Conclusion
This licensing reform marks a significant step in Oman’s efforts to professionalize its logistics workforce, ensure quality service delivery, and empower skilled labor in alignment with national employment goals.
