Ukraine has officially opened its embassy in Oman, marking a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations. The inauguration ceremony took place in Muscat on October 23, 2024, attended by Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, and Oman’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.
Sybiha highlighted that establishing new embassies in Africa and the Middle East is part of Ukraine’s broader foreign policy to strengthen ties with the “Global South”. He emphasized that this move will elevate bilateral relations between Ukraine and Oman to a new level.
Oman’s strategic importance for Ukraine lies in its geographic location, crucial role in energy supply chains, and membership in OPEC. The opening of the embassy is expected to facilitate Ukraine’s food exports to East Africa and promote greater cooperation within the Gulf Cooperation Council.
