20% of Omani Marriages in 2024 Were with Foreigners

Official statistics reveal that 20% of marriages registered in Oman in 2024 involved Omani nationals marrying foreigners.

According to data shared by Majid Mubarak bin Aziz Al-Saeedi, Director of the Notary Public Office at the Muscat Courts Complex, out of a total of 17,898 registered marriages:

• 13,868 marriages were between Omanis.
• 3,636 marriages involved Omanis marrying foreigners.
• 394 marriages were between foreigners.

Al-Saeedi emphasized that the National Medical Examination Campaign Before Marriage has played a vital role in ensuring the health and stability of marriages. The campaign aims to raise awareness about hereditary blood diseases and infectious diseases.

He added that the Supreme Judicial Council is working closely with the Ministry of Health to integrate with the “Shifa” system, facilitating accurate and timely access to medical test results.

The growing number of Omani marriages with foreigners highlights the need for greater attention to the legal and medical aspects of such unions. The Supreme Judicial Council is currently reviewing marriage-related legislation to align it with societal needs and ensure the health and sustainability of families.
