Chinese company JA Solar Technology is investing $540 million to establish a solar cell and module production facility in Oman. This project strengthens Oman’s position as a regional hub for photovoltaic manufacturing and supports the country’s efforts to build local production capacity for its emerging green hydrogen industry.

JA Solar’s Role in the Global Solar Energy Industry

JA Solar is one of the top three global manufacturers of solar equipment, with a comprehensive portfolio that includes cells, modules, silicon, and photovoltaic power stations. In 2023, the company’s export revenue exceeded $11 billion, with over 252 gigawatts of solar systems shipped from its 12 global manufacturing bases.

Increasing Chinese Investments in Oman

This project adds to the growing number of Chinese investments in Oman’s renewable energy sector. Recently, Jietai New Energy Technology also signed an agreement to build a $700 million, 5-gigawatt solar cell production plant in Sohar.

Oman’s Bright Future in Clean Energy

With the development of a polysilicon plant in Sohar and other major solar projects, Oman is rapidly becoming a global leader in renewable energy production.
