Iran Threatens to Close Strait of Hormuz in Response to Israeli Strikes

According to Iranian state TV (IRIB TV3), Iran may block the Strait of Hormuz, while the Houthis could shut the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, in what has been described as a “real possibility” amid growing regional tensions.

These two maritime passages are crucial for the global energy trade, with Hormuz alone handling nearly 30% of the world’s oil shipments. Any disruption could send shockwaves through international energy markets and trigger a global economic crisis, analysts warn.

An Iranian security source told Fars News Agency: “If Iranian energy infrastructure is attacked, we will immediately retaliate by directly striking Israel’s energy and economic hubs.”
