Official Visit of the President of Lebanon to Oman

Lebanon’s President, General Joseph Aoun, arrived in Muscat on an official two-day visit (9–10 December 2025), where he was received with full state honours by Sultan Haitham. The welcoming ceremony took place at the Royal Private Airport with the presence of senior Omani officials, the honour guard, the national anthems of both countries, and a 21-gun salute.

During the official meeting at Al Alam Palace, the two leaders reviewed the close and longstanding relations between Oman and Lebanon and emphasized strengthening cooperation in the political, economic, investment, banking, tourism, transport, and logistics sectors. Both sides highlighted the importance of the private sector in joint projects and in seizing economic opportunities. The most significant outcome of the talks was the agreement to begin preparations for the first session of the Oman–Lebanon Joint Committee, to be chaired by the foreign ministers, and to work towards signing new memoranda and agreements to enhance commercial, cultural, and scientific cooperation. The two leaders also praised the positive role of the Lebanese community residing in Oman.

Regarding regional developments, both countries expressed deep concern over Israel’s continued aggression against Lebanon and the occupation of Arab territories. They called for an immediate cessation of attacks, full implementation of Resolution 1701, stabilization efforts, facilitation of refugee return, and support for reconstruction. Oman reaffirmed its full support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and for the strengthening of state institutions, especially the army and security forces. Both sides reiterated the unified Arab stance on ending occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

At the official dinner hosted at Al Alam Palace in honour of the Lebanese President, Sultan Haitham bestowed upon him the “Supreme Military Order – First Class,” while President Aoun granted the Sultan Lebanon’s highest decoration, the “National Merit Order – Grand Cordon,” symbolizing the depth of bilateral relations.

During the visit, the Lebanese President and his delegation toured the National Museum, the Royal Opera House Muscat, and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, where they were introduced to Oman’s historical, cultural, and architectural heritage. The President signed the official guest books at all three venues, describing the visits as an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Oman’s rich culture and civilization.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Lebanese President departed Muscat and sent an official message expressing gratitude to the Sultan for the warm hospitality and constructive discussions, describing the visit as a milestone in strengthening historic ties and expanding future cooperation between the two nations.
