Wednesday, April 2, 2025 – The Consumer Protection Authority of Oman has issued Decision No. 756/2023, reinforcing the ban on the sale and distribution of electronic cigarettes and shisha across the Sultanate. The new decision introduces stricter penalties than the previous regulation.

Key Provisions

  • Any sale, import, or advertisement of e-cigarettes or e-shisha and their accessories is strictly prohibited.
  • Violators face an administrative fine of up to OMR 1,000 (~USD 2,600).
  • Repeated offenses will result in double fines.
  • For ongoing violations, a daily fine of OMR 50 (USD 130) will be imposed, capped at OMR 2,000 (USD 5,200).
  • All confiscated products will be destroyed according to official procedures.

🔄 What’s New?

Compared to the previous law (Decision No. 698/2015), which imposed a fine of OMR 500, the new decision doubles the penalty to OMR 1,000. Daily fines have been adjusted from OMR 100 to OMR 50, but the maximum cumulative fine is now higher at OMR 2,000.

🎯 Public Health Priority

The move underscores Oman’s commitment to protecting public health, especially youth, by reducing access to harmful tobacco alternatives and regulating banned products in the market.

Oman sends a clear message: the health of its people comes first.
