Muscat – May 11, 2025, The Muscat Court of First Instance has convicted an Omani citizen, Saud bin Abdullah bin Bayrouh, on charges of insult and defamation via electronic platforms, sentencing him to a fine of OMR 1,000, with OMR 500 enforceable. The court also ordered the confiscation of the mobile phone used in the offense.

According to the Public Prosecution, the individual had used digital platforms to insult and slander others through offensive and defamatory content. The ruling further mandated the public disclosure of the verdict, reinforcing the principles of judicial transparency and accountability in cybercrime cases.

This case is part of the Omani judiciary’s firm approach to combat misuse of information technology, protect citizens’ rights in cyberspace, and prevent online verbal abuse and harassment.
