Omani Mountaineer Conquers a New Peak

Omani mountaineer Sulaiman Hamoud Al Na’abi successfully conquered Mount Carstensz, one of the highest peaks in Indonesia, standing at 4,884 meters above sea level.

With this achievement, Al Na’abi became the first Omani to complete the Seven Summits Challenge according to both internationally recognized classifications. He had previously climbed the highest peaks on every continent, including Mount Everest (8,849 meters) and Lhotse (8,516 meters), the fourth-highest peak in the world.

Al Na’abi described his experience: “My adventure began on February 18 when I first arrived in Timika, West Papua province, and joined the international team. After completing the necessary administrative procedures and obtaining special permits, we reached the main camp on February 28 and immediately began preparing for the climb. Finally, I successfully reached the summit.”

He added, “This ascent was one of the most challenging phases of the Seven Summits Challenge. The steep cliffs of Mount Carstensz required advanced technical climbing skills.”

Al Na’abi elaborated on the difficulties of the climb, stating that reaching Mount Carstensz, located in a remote area of Papua’s dense forests, was extremely difficult. He explained that unpredictable weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and thick fog, added to the challenges. Despite its location in a tropical region, the weather remained highly unstable. He emphasized that climbers must always stay alert and prepared for sudden changes.

Al Na’abi considers this climb a major milestone for Oman’s mountaineering community. He believes this achievement will inspire adventurers and climbers across the country. His determination and perseverance highlight Oman’s growing presence in the global mountaineering scene. This success paves the way for future explorers to take on new challenges and push their limits.
